I've joined Pelotonia, a global community with a goal of ending cancer, for its 18th year of fundraising to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research. As a united force, the Pelotonia community has raised over $331 million in support of cancer research at the OSUCCC – James. And our momentum is unstoppable!

I’m proud to ask for your support of my fundraising efforts knowing that Pelotonia directs 100% of every participant-raised dollar to invest in the brightest minds, ideas, tools, and technology needed to accelerate the future of cancer care — including advancements in cancer prevention, improvements in early detection methods, and the development of cancer therapies that are less toxic and more effective for patients.

Throughout my life, cancer has definitely taken its toll. I've never been infected by the disease, but many in my life - and before I was born - have. Grandparents I never knew, my parents, and dear family friends have all been effected one way or another. My father had throat cancer 4 years ago and it was very hard to watch him struggle through his treatments. Still in school at the time, I was unable to support him in many ways. Thankfully the treatments, although with many side effects, were able to carry him through the disease and he remains healthy today.

In a more unfortunate story, a very good family friend, Mike Pedelty lost his battle to cancer last year. Mike was a great neighbor growing up and always treated me like one of his own kids. He was a great friend to my family and always a light whenever he was in the room. Even though I could tell his treatments were taking a toll, he never wavered in uplifting those around him. I saw him very seldomly after moving away from home and I deeply regret not being able to say goodbye.

Lastly, one of the most inportant people in my life, Mom, has had some scares over the years. They're always benign growths, but the thought always comes around about what will happen if they aren't benign next time? I'm very thankful for her care team who are able to find these growths before they get out of control. So, I'm riding for Mom, Dad, and Mike this year - along with every other person and family affected by cancer. Thank you so much for considering your help in my fundraiser to ride for my dear family and friends!
