This year will be my third year riding in Pelotonia, and I’m excited to be part of it again.

I ride because cancer has affected a lot of people in my life. Like most people, I’ve seen firsthand how much it can impact families and the people around them. This year especially, I’m riding in memory of one of my best friends, Eric Sturgis, and my Uncle Randy Messbarger, who we lost this past year. Their fight and the impact they had on the people around them is something that stays with me, and it’s a big part of why this ride means so much to me.

I’m also riding as a dad now. Having my son Wyatt has changed the way I think about a lot of things, and it makes the mission behind Pelotonia hit even closer to home. The idea that the research happening today could lead to a future where fewer families have to hear the words “you have cancer” is something worth riding for.

Pelotonia is more than just a bike ride. As a Rider, I get the opportunity to be part of something much bigger than myself. Thousands of people come together every year with one goal: to end cancer. The energy around Pelotonia weekend is incredible, but the real impact comes from the research that’s funded because of it.

One of the things that makes Pelotonia special is that 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). Every donation goes straight to the scientists and researchers who are working every day to find better treatments, better outcomes, and ultimately a cure.

The research funded through Pelotonia is happening right here in Columbus, but the impact reaches far beyond our city. The discoveries made at the OSUCCC – James help patients all over the world.

I’m grateful to be able to ride again this year and support this mission. If you’re able to donate, I truly appreciate it. And if not, even just sharing the page or cheering riders on during Pelotonia weekend means a lot.

Thank you for supporting cancer research and helping move us closer to a world without cancer.
